Bug

There's a bug going around. First it was Kate and now it's my little man sans writing. I do hope the rest of the family doesn't get it too.

For someone sick, my little man eats a lot and is still very talkative. Imagine a nine year old boy talking non-stop while you give him a sponge bath. It's quite difficult when you're concentrating making sure the heat dissipates from his body while trying to listen to his never-ending story. So his condition is not very alarming until I look at the thermometer.

We went to the hospital to have his blood extracted for CBC platelet check. It was difficult. Again, imagine a nine year old boy screaming and crying and saying things like "Stop!", "I'm not ready yet!" and "I want to see!" among many other things. It's extra difficult for me, his mom, since I see him do Kali. One hit with that stick can really hurt you but he hardly flinches, but when it's a needle he'll go haywire.

Then there's a difference in parenting style between me and my husband. He wanted to give our son time to prepare, while I wanted to get it done already because he had enough time to prepare himself at home, in the car, and in the hospital waiting area. I also wanted him to know that people can't always wait for him to get ready.

When you're in such a situation, there really is nothing much you can do but sit down, do the best you can, and respect other people's opinion, especially if it's your husband who can relate to what your child is going through. Well, we did it, and got his results a couple of hours later. The doctor says it's viral, so best to stay home, rest, eat and drink up. Whew! No hospital stay.

As mom, you just hope that someday, your child realizes that there are some things in life you may think are scary but are not; and some things in life that really are scary but you just have to go through because it serves a bigger purpose.

How does a mom lay the foundation for that?
